Discover How Mangrove Charcoal is Made
This process has to go through many different stages. Most of the stages have to be done manually, and the experience of the charcoal worker is the most important factor to produce quality charcoal.
How is mangrove charcoal made? The production steps include:
- Step 1: Standard raw wood material (Length 90-95cm, diameter 5-20cm)
- Step 2: Cut the wood into the standard size (Length: 45-46cm, diameter: 5-20cm).
- Step 3: Arrange the wood into the kiln.
- Step 4: Start the carbonization process in 15-20 days.
- Step 5: After 15-20 days, the process will be finished, fire off and wait for the charcoal to cool itself in 15-20 days.
- Step 6: Test the quality, keep the standard charcoal and remove the poor-quality charcoal.
- Step 7: Cut the charcoal into the required size. Pack the charcoal according to the customer’s requirement.
- Step 8: Store the charcoal in a cool and dry place, wait for it to cold itself completely in 5-7 days.
- Step 9: Test the temperature of the charcoal and inside the container.
- Step 10: Arrange the charcoal into the container and deliver.

How mangrove charcoal is made – Production process
Step 1: Standard raw wood material (Length 90-95cm, diameter 5-20cm).
Raw materials for coal production are mangrove wood sticks with a length of 90-95 cm and a diameter of 5-20cm.
PNP is not only a charcoal producer but also a legal forest logger, which is FSC certified. Therefore, with the ability to strictly control input materials, we commit to producing the premium mangrove charcoal from 100% legal wood materials.
Step 2: Cut the wood into the standard size (Length: 45-46 cm, diameter: 5-20 cm).
To arrange the wood into the kiln, worker will cut it into short pieces with a length of 45-46 cm, diameter 5-20 cm. The dimensions of raw materials lead to the charcoal quality. If the wood is cut too small, the finished charcoal will easily crumble. If the wood is cut too large, the carbonization process will not be complete, and the charcoal will lose quality.
Step 3: Arrange the wood into the kiln.
The wooden sticks are stacked in the kiln horizontally or vertically. The workers must alternate the direction of the wooden bars so that they fit tightly together. If they are loosely stacked, it will cause a decrease in the mass of the charcoal, incompletely carbonizing charcoal or difficult to control the temperature during the carbonization process.
Step 4: Start the carbonization process in 15-20 days.
The carbonization process takes 15-20 days, depending on the size of the kiln and the quality of the raw materials. The duration of charcoal production is usually determined through the experience of skilled workers. By observing the color and the smell of the smoke or the color of the flames inside the kiln, workers can determine the appropriate timing to add more wood or recognize when the carbonization process is completed
Step 5: After 15-20 days, the process will be finished, fire off and wait for the charcoal to cool itself in 15-20 days.
Once the carbonization process is completed, the temperature of the charcoal is very high, and it cannot be processed immediately. Workers need to cool down the charcoal before cutting and shaping it according to customer requirements. The cooling process can take around 15-20 days, during which the charcoal is left to cool itself naturally inside the kiln.
Step 6: Test the quality, keep the standard charcoal and remove the poor-quality charcoal.
After the charcoal has cooled down, this is how mangrove charcoal is made. Workers will take it out of the kiln, they will then assess its quality, classify it, and remove low-quality charcoal.
Step 7: Cut the mangrove charcoal into the required size and pack the charcoal according to the customer’s requirement.
The worker will cut the charcoal into the desired size, typically ranging from 12 to 15 centimeters, to ensure convenience for customers during use. Subsequently, the charcoal is carefully packaged using various methods such as PP bags, plastic bags, boxes, etc.
Step 8: Store the charcoal in a cool and dry place, wait for it to cold itself completely in 5-7 days.
The charcoal will be stored for 5-7 days to allow it to cool down completely before transportation.
Step 9: Test the temperature of the charcoal and inside the container.
When loading the charcoal into containers, workers will check the temperature of the charcoal and inside the container to ensure the best storage conditions for the charcoal during transportation.
Step 10: Arrange the charcoal into the container and deliver.
It depends on the type of charcoal. For example, people can arrange 27 tons per 40 feet container.

Manufacturing methods – how mangrove charcoal is made perfectly
1- Closing the kiln is the most crucial stage, determining the success or failure of a batch of charcoal.
The carbonization process requires anaerobic conditions. If the kiln is not properly sealed and leading to air entering, the charcoal will burn to ashes. Therefore, this stage must be carried out with care – That is how premium mangrove charcoal is made.
2- Maintaining the fire in the kiln.
The kiln burning process takes up to 15-20 days; therefore, workers must regularly monitor the kiln to maintain a continuous fire. If the fire burns intermittently, it can ruin the entire batch of charcoal.
3- Quality and size of the raw materials.
The duration of charcoal production depends on the quality and size of the raw materials. If there is a significant variation in the size of the materials or if different types of wood are burned together in one kiln, it can lead to a decrease in charcoal output.
For example, if small-sized wood is carbonized together with a significantly larger one, the smaller wood will be carbonized and turned into ashes before the larger one is carbonized.
