Apply these 4 tips to use sawdust briquettes for the best BBQ night!

While usually left unnoticed, sawdust briquettes contribute a huge part to a fun, all-night BBQ party. Plus, how to light sawdust charcoal so it can last all night long and cook mouth-watering dishes is not easy, especially for new grill enthusiasts. If this is also your concern, check out this blog post to find out!

Create a constant burning fire with a sawdust briquette charcoal pyramid

The constant heat plays an important role in cooking wonderful, delicious dishes. Plus, who wants to keep worrying about changing charcoal during a BBQ party, right? To help you make a steady, strong burning fire during the party, PNP suggests you make a charcoal briquette pyramid when starting the fire.

This method is to simply arrange your charcoal briquettes into the shape of a pyramid, with a large base and a small top, then we will light up a fire from within the sawdust charcoal briquettes. To be more specific, follow the steps below:

Step 1: Open the bottom vents of your grill and remove the cooking grate.

This can help get as much as possible to your charcoal so the sawdust briquettes can burn strongly and evenly.

Step 2: Form a “pyramid” of charcoal briquettes, with the peak in the center of the grill.

To easily form a sawdust briquette charcoal pyramid, you can aim the opening of the bag into the center of the grill and carefully dump the briquette charcoal into the pyramid shape.

Step 3: Spray lighter fluid inside the pyramid

Firstly, spray a small amount of lighter fluid in the center of the pyramid, then wait for them to soak for 2 – 3 minutes. After that, spray a thin layer of lighter fluid all over your sawdust briquette charcoal pyramid.

Step 4: Light the fire safely

Now is the time to light up your grilling charcoal! Once lighting the fire with your electric lighter, you will see a big flame go up. But that is not it! Patiently wait for the flames to die down, and witness until the charcoal produces smoke and turns to the white ash color. There you go! Now you are ready to start your BBQ party.

Be patient and wait for the heat to distribute evenly

After starting a strong, beautiful fire with your charcoal, what will you do? Will you begin to cook immediately? If you start cooking right away, it will only lead to food not being cooked fully, and all your grilled food might go to waste. So what should you do?

The answer is to wait for 15 – 20 minutes before cooking anything. This process will help distribute heat evenly, preventing your food from burning on the outside and raw on the inside. Therefore, It is important to wait for the grills to heat up so that your meat can become juicy and tender!

If you want to check when the good time is to start grilling your food, just keep your hands 5 inches away from the grills. If you can’t stand for 2 seconds, your grills are ready to cook!

Choose the suitable cooking method for different kinds of dishes.

It is also important to apply appropriate cooking methods for each dish. To be more specific, slow-cooked dishes require a different grilling method compared to fast-cooking ones.

For dishes that take a long time

If you are heading to roasting, baking, or smoking dishes, indirect grilling is the method you should head for!

To grill indirectly, arrange your burning sawdust briquettes to only one side of the grill. So now, you will have 2 different zones in your grills, one very hot and the other pretty cool. Now, place your food on the cool side.

Pour your hot chimney of coals into one side of your grill. This will create two zones, a very hot one on one side and a cooler zone on the other side. Put the meat on the side without coals. Without the heat directly on the meat, you will be able to cook at a lower temperature for a longer time. Indirect heat will allow a “slow and low” cook that will help tenderize large meats.

Indirect heating method is suitable for large pieces of meat!

For fast-cooking dishes

Direct grilling is great for smaller, fast-cooking meats and foods that you want a good sear on. Things like steaks, chicken, pork chops, burgers, and sausages can all benefit from the kiss of flame, and the setup is pretty simple.

When cooking using the direct technique, place the food directly over the lit coals. Ensure that your grill has preheated to a high temperature. If you’re not getting as hot as you wish, make sure the coals are getting enough oxygen by opening the vents further.

If you want to cook nice sausage dishes, apply direct cooking method!
